Welcome to the CCI website
Wintec’s Centre for Creative Industries aims to support the
cultural and economic development of the region through innovation projects for
the creative industries sector.
Originally established as a research centre in 2003, this
newly-focused innovation centre is now developing major strategic projects that
will have wider economic and cultural benefit, in line with the New Zealand
Tertiary Education Council’s core aim of developing a “high income,
knowledge-based economy, which is both innovative and creative, and provides a
unique quality of life to all New Zealanders” (TES 2007-12, p8).
By nurturing strong functional relationships with the creative
industries sector, the community, industry and government bodies, the centre
aims to develop new creative innovation projects for Wintec, industry and wider
communities in the Waikato region in order to foster economic and cultural
growth in our growing knowledge economy.
________
Innovation is “the dynamic process of adding to economic, social
or cultural development or environmental sustainability by creating and
applying knowledge.” (NZ TEC TES
2007-12, p41).
The creative industries “encompass activities that have
their origin in individual creativity, which have the potential for wealth and
job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual
property. The sector includes the
fields of Advertising, Design, Architecture, Visual Arts, Crafts, Performing
Arts, Fashion, Film, Interactive Games, Music, Television, Radio, Publishing
and Software.” (UK DCMS Creative Industries Mapping Document 2001).
